DIMAPUR, AUGUST 25 (MExN): The Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU), the All Sumi Students’ Union (SKK), the Zunheboto Range Students’ Union (ZRSU), and the New Market Area Panchayat Kohima have all demanded that the Nagaland Government immediately implement the prescribed pay scale for the RMSA Teachers 2016 batch, in line with the directives of the Gauhati High Court and the Supreme Court of India.
In a statement, the DNSU expressed its “strong discontent over the prolonged delay by the State Government in implementing the prescribed pay scale for the RMSA Teachers 2016 batch.” It reminded that “the directive of the Gauhati High Court dated 16th March 2022, and subsequently upheld by the Supreme Court of India on 20th May 2025, must be respected and executed without any further delay.”
“Our teachers, who were selected through a fair and competitive process, have been unwavering in their commitment to educating and mentoring students across the state. Withholding their rightful dues is a grave injustice and an affront to the dedication and service they continue to render to our society,” it stated.
The Union urged the State Government to “immediately comply with the Court’s ruling and clear all pending salaries and arrears without further excuses or procrastination.” It warned that “any additional delay will only serve to demoralize our educators and compromise the quality of education in Nagaland.”
Meanwhile, the All Sumi Students’ Union (SKK) also extended its support to the RMSA Teachers Association 2016. “The RMSA Teachers Association 2016, whose members were recruited through a proper conduct of exams, have a genuine demand for the implementation of the prescribed pay scale. It is imperative that these teachers receive the financial recognition they deserve for their dedicated service in shaping the students of Nagaland,” the SKK stated.
It cautioned that “without the appropriate pay, there could be significant problems not only for the teachers but also for the students they serve.” The Union therefore urged the government “to take this issue seriously and immediately address the implementation of the pay scale as directed by the court.”
The Zunheboto Range Students’ Union (ZRSU) also strongly extended its support to the RMSA Teachers’ Association 2016 in their demand for the implementation of the prescribed pay scale. It said, “The RMSA Teachers’ Association 2016 have a genuine and legitimate demand for justice. These teachers, who have dedicated themselves to shaping the lives and futures of countless students in Nagaland, deserve to be recognized with proper financial remuneration.”
ZRSU further stated that “without fair pay, the quality of education will suffer, directly affecting thousands of students across the state.” The Union called upon the Government of Nagaland “to take immediate and serious steps towards implementing the court’s order without delay. Teachers should not be forced to protest on the streets for what is rightfully theirs.”
In Kohima, the New Market Area Panchayat also extended its solidarity to the 2016 batch of RMSA teachers. Highlighting its association with Government High School (GHS) New Market, it said, “The land for the upgradation of the Government High School (GHS), New Market, Kohima was purchased by the community and the new building was successfully completed in October, 2017. Since then, the GHS had impressive and consistent results in the HSLC exams with pass percentage ranging from 90% to 92% and distinctions in varied subjects including Hindi and Mathematics. The past glory of achievements and high enrollment every year has placed the school under PM SHRI School.”
It stressed that these achievements “were only possible through the unwavering dedication and tireless efforts of the qualified teaching faculties.” Currently, six teachers from the RMSA-2016 batch are engaged in the school, teaching Classes VIII, IX, X and some lower classes.
“The RMSA Nagaland (batch 2016) demands for retrospective service benefits, pay parity and arrears is undeniable as per the Supreme Court order. The New Market Area Panchayat feel that due recognition should be given for the service rendered by RMSA teachers towards transforming the education system. We extend support to the teachers’ fraternity in their pursuit for rightful justice,” it stated.
