Prohibitory order imposed along Chümoukedima -Peren border area belt

Dimapur, October 10 (MExN): The Commissioner of Police, Dimapur, has imposed an order prohibiting the assembly of more than five persons and the carrying of lethal weapons and firearms, including lathis, daggers/machetes, sticks, spears, catapults, or any other dangerous articles in the highway stretch from Vihuto Village to Khehoyi Village and the Kiyevi Village area, along the Chumoukedima-Peren Border Belt.

The prohibition is under section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 (previously Section 144 of CrPC, 1973), following the receipt of information regarding instances of conflict and unrest in the Chümoukedima-Peren border area, stated the prohibitory order issued by CP Kevithuto Sophie.

This situation has created apprehension of a breach of peace and law and order, endangering human life and property, including agricultural produce, it added.

This order shall come into immediate effect and shall remain enforced until further notice, it stated.

As reported earlier, trouble flared in the disputed Lamhainamdi settlement, with reports of “one vehicle (Maruti Gypsy) and a motorcycle” being torched by unidentified persons in a location described as “Lamhainamdi Block-5.”

A report dispatched by the Commissioner of Nagaland to the state Home Commissioner, citing the ADC, Jalukie, noted that the incident occurred at around 4 PM on October 8. There were no reports of any casualties, however.

Following the incident, the report indicated that there was apprehension of tension and sought additional deployment of security forces to the site of the incident.

On October 9, the Minister for Power and Parliamentary Affairs, KG Kenye, stated that the government was doing its best to address the ongoing tensions in Lamhainamdi-Kiyevi.

While acknowledging the efforts of the administration and security forces to control any eventualities, he also pointed out the challenges of maintaining law and order. Kenye, who is the spokesperson for the State Government, stressed the need for a collective effort to resolve such conflicts and expressed regret over the recent incident.

Security presence and checking have also been enhanced along the National Highway-29.
