Dimapur, September 7 (MExN): The Pochury Students’ Union observed the 58th Pochury Black Day on September 6 at Matikhrü Village.
A press release stated that in his presidential address, Er Joyson Yitsüthu, President Pochury Students' Union addressed the gathering sharing on the importance of Naga history which ‘cannot be bought or altered because our forefathers made a supreme sacrifice by giving their precious lives for the cause of Naga Nation.’
Quoting the words by the then village chief Lt. Thah, “It's a man's pride- no surrender, no compromise for our birthright. This sacrifice is to protect our freedom. I shall gladly lay for the future Naga generation,” Er Joyson affirmed that the sacrifices should not go in vain.
“The spirit of nationalism should be kept burning to achieve our long cherished dream as independent Naga nation,” stated the President.
Other organisations present during the observation of the Black Day were Pochury Hoho, Pochury Mothers’ Association, Pochury Youth Association and other well wishers.
The Pochury Black Day is commemorated every year on September 6 in remembrance of those who were tortured and killed by the Indian military in Matikhrü village in 1960.
