The five-day demand driven short-term skill development training programme on ‘construction sector for multiskilled technician’ concluded in Pughoboto sub-division, Zunheboto district with a culmination programme held today at Town Hall, Pughoboto.

The training which was held from July 25-29 is an initiative of the Department of Employment, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (ESDE), Government of Nagaland with Zynorique Initiative Society as its training partner.

A total of 50 youths from different villages under Pughoboto sub-division were trained the basics of plumbing and handling electrical equipments (electrician). There are 24 villages under the sub-division and the trainees were from Pughoboto, Ghathashi, Mukalimi, Natsumi, Lazami, Ghokimi, Tukuliqa, Chisholimi and Mishilimi.

All the 50 successful trainees were awarded certificates and tools by the department which included tile cutters, drillers, pliers and screw drivers.

Speaking at the programme, Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) 13 A/C Pughoboto, Y Vikheho Swu acknowledged the efforts of the department of ESDE and the Zynorique Initiative Society for coming up with such programmes in the sub-division level as well. “We thank you for remembering Pughoboto,” Swu said while emphasizing that programmes in the sub-divisions are especially few.

He said that for a place like Pughoboto to go up to Zunheboto for such trainings become ‘really difficult’ citing communication factor and the fact that, from the beginning, Pughoboto was born out of Kohima district. Swu reflected that for this reason, the people of Pughoboto mostly settle in Kohima and Dimapur districts with barely a few houses in Zunheboto.

Swu emphasized the need for Nagaland to produce highly skilled workers even in the area of construction and building houses, which will bring about tremendous changes at the society’s way of life. “When we ourselves become our own builders, painters and crafters, this is when we will create our own opportunities,” he encouraged the trainees and the student bodies present.

Stressing that skill development is the need of the hour, he urged the government to come up with more of such undertakings and further called upon the youths to develop one’s mindset with better planning and vision for the future through skill development.

Chairing the programme, Deputy Director ESDE, Zubemo Tsanglao said that trainings for Zunheboto district are usually held in Zunheboto and hence, the department felt the need to conduct the training this time in Pughoboto.

Citing the examples of China and Korea where the citizens are their own builders of houses and cities, he encouraged the trainees to make the most out of what they have learned and to efficiently use the tools provided to them. Should the trainees wish to upgrade their skills, Tsanglao assured that the department will be ready to provide more advanced trainings in the future. Once the training programmes are completed in all the designated areas, Tsanglao informed that the department will also judge which sub-division or district has fared the best.
