Kohima, August 20 (MExN): In a joint directive issued on Thursday, the Pfuchatsumia Youth Organisation (PYO) and Dapfhütsumia Youth Organisation (DYO) ordered an immediate halt to heavy vehicle movement on four specified roads in the region, citing public safety and infrastructure damage.
The ban applies to DBS Road, P. Khel to Seikhazu Junction, D. Khel (Rheichalie Road), and the stretch from Khuya near Medical College to BSF Camp, Keyake Road, P. Khel.
PYO President Thejanguzo Pienyü and DYO President Ruokuoneitso Kire said in a press release that the decision was forced by the closure of Phesama road, which has diverted a large number of Manipur-bound and inter-district heavy trucks onto these unsuitable thoroughfares.
“These roads are not designed for heavy commercial traffic. Their continued use is causing rapid deterioration and posing serious risks to public safety,” the release stated.
All heavy vehicles have been directed to use National Highway-150 as the designated alternative route. The organisations warned that any violation would be dealt with by the concerned authorities.
The order, effective immediately, is aimed at ensuring road maintenance, traffic discipline, and the safety of local residents, the release added.
