While the state government gave off the impression that there was a consensus on the two-point resolution adopted during the consultative meeting today, there appears to be controversy over the signatures on the document which went viral on social media.
When The Morung Express got in touch with some attendees, they all agreed that the meeting was productive; however, several of them were baffled and ‘not comfortable’ that the copy of the resolution bore their signatures.
Some of the attendees said that ““not all organisations present in the meeting endorsed the resolutions as each resolution was objected by one or the other.”
“I thought it was just an attendance signature, but somehow it has been circulated with all our signatures implying that all participants endorsed the resolutions. I was thinking it will not go down very well with everyone. How can they say everyone agreed to it? I was not comfortable seeing that,” one of them said.
Another opined, “Of course I endorsed the resolutions that were adopted, but the way the signatures were attached with the resolution is not right as everyone didn’t endorse it.”
“Attendance was taken as usual but after the two-point resolution, they simply asked us to raise our hands if we agree, but our signature was not appended in the resolution. It was not an absolute yes,” said another.
Informing that few organisations have strongly objected to the ULB Election with 33% women reservation when the resolution was read out, the attendee opined that they should have repeated the question so as to make things clear.
Another viewed “its ambiguous the way the resolution was circulated along with the signatures. Anyone could have easily misconstrued the way it was presented. I hope this won’t be a setback to today’s meeting outcome.”
Meanwhile, an attendee recounting the meeting said, “surprisingly, some few organisations who were totally against the reservation agreed.” On the other hand a tribal organisation has strongly objected, while another was quoted to have said, “Why would women need reservation if they say they are equal,” adding “he even used the word ‘dehumanising’”
Apart from those two, it was learnt that all the others have a consensus on the ULB Election with 33% women reservation.
