Rainy season in Nagaland till Oct 20

KOHIMA, OCTOBER 1 (MExN): The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has informed that rainy season in Nagaland is going to continue till about October 20. A press release from the NSDMA said that Nagaland registered rainfall deficiency of 26% during the monsoon season from June 1 to September 30.

A weather system has formed in the Bay of Bengal and is likely to persist over the region for the next 4-5 days. While no extreme weather activity is expected, moderate rain and thunderstorms with lightning is expected, mostly during evening and night between October 1 and 6. Improvement of weather is expected from October 7 onwards and light weather activity is expected between October 7 and 10.

During this period, thundershowers and lightning accompanied with heavy rains is expected in the districts of Kiphire, Kohima, Longleng, Mokokchung, Mon, Peren, Phek and Tuensang. Meanwhile, moderate and light rain is expected in Dimapur district.  The NSDMA has asked all the DDMAs and other line departments to remain alert for any emergencies caused by natural calamities during this period.  It further asked the public to be vigilant during this period, and not shelter under large trees and near the river banks to prevent unnecessary risk to life from lightning and landslide.
