Rapid progress on redevelopment of 91 stations under ABSS in NE

MALIGAON, AUGUST 29 (MExN): The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) is making significant strides in the redevelopment of 91 stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS). This ambitious initiative, part of the Indian Railways’ broader effort to enhance passenger experience, is transforming stations with upgraded infrastructure and modern amenities, a press release issued by CPRO-NFR satated.

The ABSS aims to modernize station facilities to create a more comfortable and efficient environment for passengers. The ongoing upgrades include construction of foot-over bridges for improved connectivity, development of station circulating areas, and the addition of covered parking sheds for both two-wheelers and four-wheelers. Modernized toilets, including those for differently-abled passengers, new shop complexes, and expanded waiting areas are also part of the redevelopment.

Among the stations undergoing these enhancements are Kamakhya, Rangiya, Dhubri, Lumding, New Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, and New Jalpaiguri, among others. Specific works include upgrades at New Mal Junction, Kokrajhar, Fakiragram, and several others across the network. The redevelopment effort is also focusing on installing advanced ticketing systems, CCTV cameras, better lighting, and improved crowd management to ensure a safer and more efficient travel experience.

Sustainability is a key focus of the ABSS, with plans for energy-efficient lighting, rainwater harvesting systems, and the use of eco-friendly materials. The aesthetic aspects of the stations will reflect the rich cultural heritage of the region.
