128 Army and Assam Rifles columns currently in Manipur

Kohima, May 10 (MExN): The significant re-engineering of security architecture and infuse of numerous resources in violence-hit Manipur by the Indian Army and Assam Rifles is showing positive results, the Indian Army informed on Wednesday.

A total of 128 Army and Assam Rifles columns, unmanned aerial vehicles and other aerial surveillance assets have been pressed into action so far to undertake 24x7 surveillance due to the prevailing security situation in Manipur.

In particular, Indian Army is leaving no stone unturned to undertake surveillance of areas not only in the hinterland but also along the Indo-Myanmar Border, the PRO (Defence) said in a statement.

This includes round-the-clock surveillance through Unmanned Aerial Vehicles with specific tasking, employment of Air Force and Army helicopters, it said, while numerous foot patrols and flag marches are also being conducted to restore the confidence of locals on the ground.

Normalcy has now commenced to show visible manifestation and people are now returning while the reunification of stranded people with their loved ones have commenced, the statement added.

Meanwhile, as Manipur slowly “rises to the peaceful and tranquil atmosphere amongst all communities,” the Indian Army cautioned that “inimical elements may once again attempt to spread malicious unverified content”

Accordingly, the PRO (Defence) asserted that the Indian Army and Assam Rifles remain committed to restoring complete normalcy at the earliest and request all to disregard any malicious attempt to disturb harmony in the region through manipulated interpretation/ misrepresentation of facts.
