More observes World Malaria day in Nagaland
Wokha, April 26 (MExN): World Malaria Day 2021 was observed with the theme ‘Reaching the Zero Malaria Target’ to highlight the need for continued investment and sustained political commitment for malaria prevention and control. In Nagaland, the day was observed in respective districts on April 25 and April 26.

Wokha: In Wokha, malaria day was observed in all the blocks and villages under Wokha district on April 25.
“The district is in the elimination phase of malaria. It is working towards zero indigenous malaria positive cases in the district,” Dr N Thungbemo Patton, District Vector Borne Officer (NVBDCP), Wokha informed in a press release.
“In consonance with the national and state targets of eliminating the malarial disease, it has sharply declined over the years and we stand to even achieve complete malaria elimination from the district in the coming years,” Dr Patton stated.
He also said that National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP), Wokha district has given emphasis on the behavioral change of its citizens to prevent the disease by having a habit of daily usage of LLINs (Long lasting insecticidal nets) and also reduce the source of vectors in their vicinity. Owing to this, awareness programme was conducted in all the five blocks where fever screenings was also done.
Prior to the World malaria day, LLIN fortnight was observed across all the LLIN beneficiary villages with the active involvement of ASHAs to monitor and check the usage of LLINs at dusk regularly to cultivate the regular usage of LLINs.
Changtongya: In Changtongya town, the World Malaria day was observed at Dobashi Court on April 26. A DIPR report said that Medical Officer, CHC Changtongya, Dr Imtimongba highlighted how malaria is spread and how it can be prevented. He encouraged the gathering to use mosquito repellent and LLIM mosquito net regularly. He urged upon everyone to keep their surrounding clean and to remove all stagnant water, which invites mosquito breeding.
Short speeches were also delivered by SDO (C) Changtongya, Rorheu Peseyieand by All Ward Chairman Changtongya, Putinungba Jamir. The programme was chaired by MO (Ayush) CHC Changtongya, Limasashi.
Tuli: World Malaria Day was observed at Community Health Center, Tuli on April 26. Resource person, MO CHC Tuli, Dr Joshua elaborated on the significance of the day. He encouraged everyone to spread awareness on malaria at their respective community. He also expressed his gratitude to the public leaders for their continuous support.
A DIPR report stated that the programme was chaired by SMO CHC, Tuli Dr Imlinaro and was attended by public leaders, ASHAs and malaria surveillance workers.
Peren: NVBDCP Peren District observed World Malaria Day on April 25. Addressing the keynote, Dr Hedungkiebe, District Vector Borne Officer stated that LLIN fortnight house to house visit were conducted all over the district two weeks ahead of World Malaria Day by the ASHAs, SWs and Block MTS to check the compliance of LLINs usage which were recently distributed. He stated that the fortnight culminated on April 25 with an awareness programme on malaria in selected villages of each block i.e. Samzuiram, Nkialwa, Songluh and Peletkie marking the observance.
Pezanguno Celine Secü, District Media Officer, CMO Office Peren in a press release stated that the awareness activities also conducted with fever screening for Malaria and IEC activity all of which were conducted under the supervision of Dr Hedungkiebe and DVBC Vimekhrie-ü Metsieo.
