DGAR Polo Cup inauguration today

Dimapur, January 16 (MExN):
The inauguration ceremony of DGAR Polo Cup” will be held at Polo Ground, Imphal on January 17 at 1:45 pm by Maj Gen CA Krishnan, IGAR (South) and Joy Kumar Singh, president of Manipur Polo Association. CM's wife files FIR against peasant leader

Guwahati, January 16 (PTI):
Dolly Gogoi, wife of Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, today filed an FIR against peasant leader Akhil Gogoi for alleging that the couple own houses in the United States.  Dolly in the FIR with case number 48/11 at the Basistha police station stated that the allegation levelled by Akhil Gogoi was totally false and misleading, officer-in-charge S Deka said.   Gogoi had recently alleged that the chief minister and his wife were owners of two houses in the United States where their daughter resides.  The chief minister has denied the allegation and said it was ''politically motivated''.

NE students condemn Chinese stapled visa

Itanagar, January 16 (PTI):
A key students' organisation of the Northeast region has condemned China for issuing stapled visa to the people of Arunachal Pradesh. In a press statement here, North East Students'' Organisation (NESO) asked the Centre to clarify its stand on the people of Arunachal Pradesh. "If the people of Arunachal Pradesh are Indians, then why are they treated like dual citizens by China? Why people of Arunachal cannot enjoy the same privileges and status that have been enjoyed by other Indians," NESO secretary general Gumjum Haider said.

BTC admin distributes relief to victims

Kokrajhar (Assam), Jan 16 (PTI):
The Bodoland Territorial Council has distributed relief to those affected by ethnic strife in Assam's Goalpara district.  A delegation of the BTC, led by speaker Pani Ram Brahma, distributed the relief materials to the Rabha victims at Bhetkuchi area today.   Fifteen relief camps have been opened by the district administration following ethnic clash between the warring Rabha and Garo tribes on the Assam-Meghalaya border.  Brahma said all measures will be taken including intensifying security to instill a sense of confidence among the inmates of the camp.

Assam Congress invites Sonia to start poll campaign

Guwahati, January 16 (PTI):
The Congress in Assam has invited party president Sonia Gandhi to inaugurate its Assembly poll campaign in the state. 'We have invited Gandhi to be present in the grassroot level workers' meeting to be held here on January 23, 'Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president Bhubaneswar Kalita told reporters here today.   The party leader said the presence of Gandhi, which has not yet been officially confirmed, will encourage cadres to face the election.  He said the main aim of the meeting would be to educate the people on two main poll issues - development and welfare.

Passenger dies on Agartala-Kolkata flight

KOLKATA, January 16 (PTI):
An ailing passenger travelling by a Jet Airways flight died on board the aircraft when the plane was flying from Agartala to Kolkata on Saturday, sources at the N S C Bose International Airport here said. The passenger, identified as Kartick (44), died while the plane was on way to Kolkata from Agartala, the sources said.
