Procurement and packaging of essential commodities for distribution to daily wage earners and labourers in the form of ‘Relief Package’ for Dimapur district is in full swing at Holy Cross HSS auditorium.

For the past 4 days, a team comprising of officials from the district administration, Food & Civil supplies Department and representatives from the Naga Council Dimapur and Dimapur Chamber of Commerce & Industry are overseeing the unloading, measuring and packing of essential commodities for distribution.

The team is assisted by 50-60 odd volunteers from Red Cross Society in sorting out and packing the essential commodities inside the school auditorium, which has been temporarily converted to a godown.

The State Home Department (Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority) in a notification dated Apirl 21, 2020, stated that while the districts have made efforts to provide relief to daily wage earners/labourers, considering the scale of distress, there is need for a large-scale relief operation with adequate quantities of essential commodities for sustenance of the beneficiaries concerned.

To mitigate the hardships being faced by daily wage earners/labourers, the NSMDA issued guidelines for distribution ‘Relief Package’ to each beneficiary at the following scale: Rice (10kg), lentils (01kg), Kholar/Naga dal (01kg), mustard oil (half litre bottle), sugar (01kg), salt (01kg), tea (200gm), bath soap (02 nos), washing soap (02 nos), masala (100gm packet), onion and garlic (01kg) and chilli powder (100gms).

When contacted, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur, V Lovitoly Sema, told The Morung Express that the government has fixed 11,000 beneficiaries for Dimapur district. For distribution, the ADC said the district administration will strictly abide by the NSDMA guidelines.

The ADC said that committees have already been set up for selection and identification of beneficiaries comprising of executive magistrates, sector commander, GBs, village council/colony council chairmen, women groups and NGOs, of respective administrative circles and areas.

The ADC informed that distribution would start, probably in phase-wise manner, once the list of all the 11,000 beneficiaries reach the district administration.
