Under the patronage of Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA), the Rengma Wrestling Association (RWA) in collaboration with NWA launched its 10 days long Intensive Wrestling Training Camp 2024 at Tseminyu Town Hall on October 14.
NWA President Vivolie Kezo stressed the importance of Naga traditional wrestling. Naga wrestling is also part of the peace making process where quarrel and confrontation are settled through wrestling boots during the time of forefathers and is preserved and protected till date. Kezo also shared the story for formation of the RWA and conveyed its indebtedness to all those who involved in the process of formation.
Sharing the performances of the NWA participating in the AITWPF 12 National Traditional Wrestling & Pankration Championship 2024 recently held at Dehradun from October 3 to 6 last where NWA grabbed 54 medals making a history in the record of the NWA. Kezo also informed that the Asian Belt Wrestling Championship is scheduled to be held at Kohima city from November 17 to 23, where 2 nations from Africa and 3 nations from Europe including 20 plus nations from Asia had already confirmed their participation.
Kezo added that the Naga Style of wrestling is all set to be included as medal event during the championship and urged upon the Rengma youth to prepare and be part of NWA championships.
Kezo also informed that training such as this, the Lotha Wrestling Association (LWA) had already completed from September 27 to October 8, the Pochury Wrestling Association (PWA) is underway since October 7 and will culminate on October 16.
The Sumi Wrestling Association (SWA) is set to be launched on October 21.
Separate State level Naga Style wrestling championship for non- wrestling communities, apart from NWA present affiliated units (Angami, Chakhesang and Zeliang) is in plan to organize probably in the month of March 2025.
Kezo was confident that the trainees will be motivated with zeal and interests and act as ambassadors of wrestling in the entire Rengma community set up and furthermore.
Kezo on behalf of the NWA convey its special invitation to the RWA wrestlers to be part of the forthcoming 17th International Hornbill Naga Wrestling Championship 2024 tentatively scheduled on December 4, 2024 at Khuochiezie and further suggest that the best wrestlers from the camp be provided an opportunity for the said Championship.
A total of 22 wrestlers from several ranges were registered to be part of the 10 days camp along with management officials.
Meanwhile, prominent wrestlers-Venuzo Dawhuo, Menusetuo Yiese, Kezhaselu-o Pienyü and Huluyi D Vadeo were also part of the programme.
NWA prominent wrestlers Kevizhakho Suokhrie, Besuveto Cümu and Kedingau were assigned as the Coach/Trainer for the camp.
RWA President Rhuchuyhung Seb appreciated the gestures of the NWA for the wonderful initiatives for bringing out the proposal to include the Regmas to be part of the NWA in the long run. Meanwhile, the launching program for the wrestling training camp was chaired by Andrew Kent, Vice President RWA, Senenlo Tep, Associate Youth Pastor, BBC invoked God’s s blessings. Short speech was delivered by S Akhu Kath, Vice President, Rengma Sports Association while Kegwalo Kent, General Secretary RWA proposed vote of thanks.
