Return of Naga Heritage

Kohima, March 6 (DIPR): A programme on return of Naga Heritage from USA was held on March 6 at State Archives Hall Directorate of Art & Culture Nagaland with Additional Chief Secretary & Development Commissioner, Alemtemshi Jamir as the chief guest.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest said that the return of Naga Heritage is a celebration of achievement and added that without our identity, history and culture we will be lose so understanding our Heritage and preserving our culture is a way forward of our true identity. He stated that since we do not have a written history, it becomes utmost duty of our generation to preserve the culture heritage and history for the future generation. The chief guest also mentioned that he had visited some Asian country and has seen their artefacts but the Archives of Naga materials in Nagaland State museum has some what superior in quality. He therefore calls on the Art & Culture Department to give more importance and continue to preserve the rich culture heritage so that the State would have a good legacy for the generation to come.

Guest of honour, Achilla I. Erdican narrated a brief report on the historic journey of the unique and priceless Naga heritage collection. She requested the Art & culture department to digitised the Imlong Erdican Naga Heritage collection and developed it in a website link with the Smithsonian Institution. She also mentioned that to make the Naga heritage collection more precious and complete, she and her husband Dr. Albert G. Erdican have decided to donate all their private collection of Naga paper and books to Dr. Means collection and name it as Imlong Erdican Naga Heritage collection.

The programme was chaired by Director Art & Culture, Kughazhe Y. Yeputhomi. A folk song was presented by Tetseo sisters and vote of thanks was proposed by Guide Lecture Adela.
