Rev L Mankup, the first ordained minister among the Konyak Nagas passed away on Wednesday afternoon at Tamlu village.

Born in June 1922 at Tamlu village under Longleng district, Rev Mankup was ordained on March 5, 1967 at Kongan Baptist Church by the then General Secretary of Council of Baptist Churches in North East India (CBCNEI) Edward Sinha.

Among others, he served as Pastor of Tamlu village from 1949 to 1951, General Secretary of the Youth Department at Kohima Ao Church in 1953 and also served two terms as the President of the Konyak Students' Union.

Rev Mankup was also served as the first Eastern Missionary-cum-Mission and Evangelism Director from 1985 to 1991. He was instrumental in framing the constitution for the Konyak Baptist Bumeinok Bangjum (KBBB), the Workers Fund of the KBBB, the Konyak Church Manual and a founding member of the Konyak Tribal Union. 

Rev Mankup also played a vital role in the formation of the NNC Konyak Region in 1955 and played an active role as a peace negotiator between the Indian Armed Forces and the Naga Political Groups.

Sources informed that the funeral service for the late Rev Mankup will be held on April 9, 10:00 am at Tamlu village.
