Rio assures follow up on consultations

Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio today asserted that the Nagaland government is prepared to go for further discussion with civil society organizations over the issue of ownership of land and its resources, municipal elections and the 33% reservation policy for women.

Rio told a consultation meeting on the aforementioned points of issue here today, which led to adoption of several recommendations and putting forward opinions by the House.

No resolution was undertaken in today’s consultative meeting except for the approval of earlier recommendations and putting forward opinions by the meeting.

Appealing to the people not to think that the government is suppressing individuals’ rights, the chief minister said the state is open and transparent and assured more discussion with tribal organizations and the public. Rio said the government wants to listen to the people, collect their opinion and ideas and return to them for wider consultations.

Home Minister Imkong L Imchen also felt the need to have wider consultations. He said today’s consultations will not finalize ‘everything.’ Stating that the government is going to make serious legislation and modalities, he said “We need your wisdom. We need each other.”
