Rio on target achievement under Year of Entrepreneurs

Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has highlighted the anticipated target achievement under the “Year of Entrepreneurs” in the floor of the House on Saturday. Replying to Congress MLA Joshua Sumi, Rio highlighted the targeted number of entrepreneurs for the districts under “Year of Entrepreneurs” as ; Kohima- 150, Mokokchung- 100, Tuensang- 100, Mon- 75, Wokha- 75, Zunheboto- 75, Phek- 75, Dimapur- 200, Peren- 50, Kiphire- 50 and Longleng- 50.

In addition, Rio said, all line departments like agriculture, horticulture, rural development, sericulture, fisheries, veterinary & animal husbandry, land resources, science & technology, information technology, tourism, health care, Nagaland Bamboo Development Agency, Nagaland Honey & Bee Keeping Mission, Nagaland-Bio-resources Mission etc shall endeavour to promote atleast ten entrepreneurs from each district in the respective lines.

During the “Year of the Entrepreneurs,” top priority would be to rectify lacunae in policies which requires; review/analyze the present implementation of the existing policies of both the state and the Centre and streamline them to benefit genuine entrepreneurship, examine/explore possibilities of new policies to promote entrepreneurship. He also said that the government is organizing two day entrepreneurship awareness programme in collaboration with Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship, Guwahati at all the district headquarters from July 22 to October 8 this year.

On being asked the programmes to be taken up under “Year of Entrepreneurs,” Rio said that since training and capacity building are integral aspects of developing entrepreneurs, the entrepreneurship and skill development programmes will be organized at the state, district and even block levels targeting appropriate groups. Also, to organize and conduct conference, seminars and workshop to identify areas for development of entrepreneurs Rio stated that academia and civil society shall be involved as such seminars would also be required to discuss the bottlenecks and constraints to entrepreneurship.

Rio also stated that it would work out a calendar of activities and identify and promote successful entrepreneurs and institute recognition and awards for such entrepreneurs.

Chief Minister said 2010—11 has been declared as “Year of Entrepreneurs” with a view to provide scope for gainful self-employment avenues specially among the educated unemployed youth, as also to direct the thrust of such efforts specially towards industrial and commercial activities either directly or as indirect support services and also keeping in view the various projects and programmes under the consideration of the state government.
