Nagaland’s Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Saturday opposed the manifesto of Indian National Congress (INC) on LGBTQIA+ community.

Rio conveyed this during NDA Campaign Rally of Kachui Timothy Zimik, NPF/NDA candidate for the upcoming 18th Lok Sabha Election 2024 to II- Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency at Maram Bazar, Manipur on April 20.

Quoting Congress manifesto “After wide consultation, Congress will bring a law to recognise civil unions between couples belonging to the LGBTQIA+ community,” Rio said, “It is not our tradition, it is not a Christian habit. It is not Christian values.”

“In Western countries, they may have such problem but Congress trying to bring it to our society, it is unbecoming,” Rio said, adding that it should be discussed thoroughly.

Rio expressed apprehension that “When law recognises these groups, it will affect the future children and there will be no system.”

“It is not acceptable,” the Chief Minister added.
