Dimapur, August 10 (MExN): The Rongmei Naga Peoples' Organisation (RNPO) has expressed deep concern over escalating violence by uniformed gunmen in whatever name in different parts of Tamenglong, and strongly condemns the recent murder of Gaibung Kamei at Khumji village on August 7.
RNPO President G.Namgai and General Secretary Mathew Rongmei in a press release said that the killing of one Gaibung Kamei is a barbaric act of senseless mind to cause fear and insecurity amongst the innocent civilians and throw the law and order in chaos.
“Civilians cannot continue to live in fear and lose sleep when government and security forces are responsible to protect them. The State authority must immediately arrest the perpetrators and bring them to book so as to restore confidence of the people in their leadership. There is no justification whatsoever to such killings,” RNPO stated.
It also reminded that “the trigger-happy gunmen should seriously take note of the Charter Declaration adopted at the Rongmei People’s Convention on January 9, 2018 at Tamenglong that Rongmei inhabited areas are Peace Zone and that any sort of factional feuds or violence be stopped.”
It is mandatory for all gunmen to ensure peace and any defiance to the people’s call will only invite people’s wrath and flush-out from the very land.
“Therefore, we urge the warring parties to listen to the voice of the people and refrain from further atrocities and escalating conflict,” RPNO added. Meanwhile, RNPO has extended condolence to the family of the victim and prayer to the departed soul.
