Road Show boycott over land dispute

Dimapur, July 24 (MExN): The proposed state road show to be held in Pungro from August 6 till the 8th has come under threat of boycott from a local organization which today cited land dispute in the area the event is scheduled to be held.

The United Sangtam Likhum Bumji (USLB) today expressed opposition to the state government holding the road show at Pungro town and said it will not be allowed to be held under any circumstance. The USLB today issued a press release today.

According to the USLB the state government had officially declared to hold state road show program at Pungro town “without considering the gravity of situation of these area which has deeply hurt the sentiments of the Sangtam community.”  “…the proposed township and its adjoining villages such as Pungro village, Old Vongti and New Vongti falls under the disputed land as far as the state government is concerned. Whereby, the state government had issued series of orders/notification stating that no social gathering in any form shall not be permitted to hold within the disputed land…” the USLB stated in a note today.

The organization cited a number of official orders understood to have been issued over matter related to the dispute. Basing on the government’s order, the USLB stated, programs of the ENPO and ENSF proposed to be held in Pungro town in the earlier years were not also permitted.

The USLB said that the state government deciding to hold the road show “is a direct violation of state standing order by government itself.”
