‘Roads between Meluri & Kiphire will be restored at earliest’

The roads which suffered damages due to heavy rainfall between Meluri and Kiphire will be restored at the earliest, assured Minister for Soil & Water Conservation, Geology & Mining, V. Kashiho Sangtam while addressing a meeting at Melurii on August 11.  

The Minister, speaking in the meeting held at the ADC Guest House in Meluri Town, said that he has personally come to Meluri to take stock of the situation and monitor the progress of the restoration of roads as Kiphire has been cut off for weeks now.  

The Minister said that maintaining all weather roads between Meluri and Kiphire is extremely crucial for the economy and growth of Kiphire, as it is the only road which connects Kiphire with the rest of Nagaland. “Noting that the livelihood and progress of society depends on quality roads,” he stated.  

The Minister also extended acknowledgment on behalf of the people of Kiphire towards the Administration Meluri, Pochury Hoho, Pochury Mother's organization, Meluri Village Council and other NGOs for rendering help towards the people of Kiphire who were stranded for days in Meluri.  

“It is this unique culture of the Nagas of helping one another in trying and challenging time that keeps the society united, stating that where there is good people, society thrives and grow, and in doing so the people of Pochury has set a noble example,” he expressed.  

The Minister also asked the National Highway, Kiphire to put up proposal for a concrete solution in road sector. Benjamin Longkap SDO(C) Meluri pitched for a permanent solution in road sector between Meluri and Kiphire which otherwise, he felt that the people would continue to be at the mercy of the nature.  

Rhoseitho Ngouri, ADC Meluri earlier welcoming the Minister said that the administration, along with the public and National Highway department were making all out afford in restoring the damaged roads.  

Representatives of Pochury Hoho, Pochury Mothers’ Organization and Meluri Public Organization also spoke during the meeting.
