Dimapur, March 20 (MExN): A peace forum meeting was conducted at Zeliangrong village, Dimapur at St Francis Church on March 20. According to a press release from Peace Channel, Program Coordinator Caroline spoke on the mission and activities carried out by Peace Channel. She also laid emphasis on how women can play an important part in nurturing peace in the families and communities and how it can help us to live peacefully.
The resource person for the meeting was Garrol Lotha who spoke on the topic ‘Dialogue- A method for peace building.’ Lotha stated that each person will face tensions and conflicts in life and that it was an inevitable cycle of life in the families as well as communities. She said that it is up to the individual to understand each other, embrace each other’s differences and learn to live in peace.
On conflict resolution, Lotha stated that conflicts can arise due to differences, limited resources, lack of love, understanding and respect for one another. ‘Conflicts take place when we don’t want to understand/listen to one another,’ she added while underscoring that it is only when one is ready to engage in dialogue by listening, understanding and respecting the other side of the story that we can find ways to resolve the conflict.
“All of us in the communities have a role to play in ensuring that peace can prevail starting from our families first and then to our communities. Only when all of us have peace in life can we say we are all mentally, spiritually and physically at peace,” Lotha stated.
