Dimapur, August 16 (MExN): The Rotary Club of Dimapur, under the leadership of president Pradeep Goel, celebrated the 80th Independence Day with a combination of patriotic activities, fellowship and community service.

The celebrations began at the Rotary Centre, Dimapur, with the hoisting of the National Flag, followed by the National Anthem and an expression of patriotism and unity among the Rotarians.

The members later shared breakfast and fellowship, reinforcing bonds of friendship and togetherness. The occasion also highlighted that patriotism extends beyond celebrating freedom and involves serving society and contributing to nation-building.

Following the flag hoisting, Rotarians, along with members of Inner Wheel Dimapur, Agarwal Samaj and Agarwal Yuva Manch, visited Prodigal's Home in response to the directives of the District Administration, Dimapur.

As part of Rotary's Community Economic Development focus, the club undertook "Project Aahaar", led by chairperson Manish Jain and project chairman Amit Jain.

Under the initiative, food packets and essential grocery items, including rice, dal, tea leaves, potatoes, mustard oil, milk packets, noodles and biscuits, were handed over for the inmates of the home.

The initiative aimed to provide nutritional support while extending care and dignity to those in need.

The Rotarians also spent time interacting with the inmates, sharing conversations and stories and encouraging them. The interaction, the club said, turned the distribution of essential items into an opportunity for human connection, compassion and reassurance.

The Independence Day initiative reflected the Rotary principle of "Service Above Self", demonstrating that the celebration of freedom also involves extending care, dignity and support to all sections of society.
