Maligaon, July 26 (MExN): The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has rescued 430 persons, including minors, from railway stations and trains across its network during the first six months of 2026.
In a concentrated drive from July 18 to 20, RPF personnel rescued at least 17 vulnerable children in separate operations.
According to a press release from Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, Chief Public Relations Officer of NFR, the rescued minors were handed over to Child Welfare Committees (CWCs), Child Help Line, and other authorised agencies for care and rehabilitation.
On July 18, a 12-year-old boy was rescued at New Alipurduar Railway Station and handed to the CWC in Alipurduar. The next day, four minor girls travelling on Train No. 22504 were rescued at New Bongaigaon and handed to the CWC there, while a 10-year-old boy was rescued from Train No. 15910 at Kishanganj and handed to the local Child Help Line.
Also on July 19, RPF at Katihar rescued a 14-year-old girl from the station and handed her to Child Line, Katihar. In a separate operation, an RPF Train Escort Party rescued another 14-year-old girl from Train No. 12505 and coordinated with local police for her safe custody and legal follow-up. During the same operation, an 18-year-old youth was reunited with his father.
On July 20, RPF personnel at Goalpara rescued a 13-year-old girl from Train No. 75724 and handed her to the CWC, Goalpara. At Kamakhya Railway Station, in coordination with NGO representatives, a 16-year-old girl travelling on Train No. 12505 was rescued and handed over to Railway Child Line, Guwahati.
The NFR RPF has stressed that sustained vigilance and timely intervention remain central to its operations, with special focus on vulnerable children and passengers across its jurisdiction.
