Khuvie produce including other agriculture produce worth Rs 14–15 lakh was put for sale at the Nerhema Organic Day-cum-3rd Khuvie Nyi, held at Chiephobozou town in Kohima district on September 9.
This year, around Rs 14–15 lakh worth of Khuvie including other agriculture produce has been brought for sale, said Kiyasetuo Kengurüse, Co-Convenor of the organising committee. He said that the Nerhema Organic Day-cum-Khuvie Nyi was initiated by Nerhema Women's Organisation in 2024 with an objective to improve the economic condition of the villagers.
He said the first edition generated around Rs 14–15 lakh, while the second edition in 2025 saw approximately Rs 20–25 lakh. Kengurüse stressed that the annual event was not intended merely as a festival but formed part of a broader effort to strengthen the cultivation and improve farmers' livelihood.
This year edition was held in collaboration with horticulture department, Government of Nagaland. The event co-sponors includes; Er Keneizezo Kengurüse, Kevilekho üsou and Er Neilabeizo Tsürho.
He said the organisation is now working to move beyond a once-a-year sale model into weekly. From next year, we will sell our produces weekly, he said.
“We are in the process of storing seeds for the next year,” he said, adding that the organisation plans to distribute seeds directly to farmers and work more closely with the individual cultivators.
Kengurüse said that approximately 150–160 households of Nerhema are engaged in Khuvie cultivation.
Besides selling the fresh produce, villagers are now exploring value addition through pickles and Khuvie-based dishes.
He said that the Nerhema Women’s Organisation has also been documenting local food items to preserve and promote the community's culinary traditions.
He said that the third edition of Khuvie Nyi marked not only a celebration of local produce but also a move towards commercial farming, value addition and year-round market access for rural cultivators.
Mentionably, Dr Neiphrezo Keditsu, Advisor to the Chief Minister and Chairman, Nagaland Khadi Village Industries Board (NKVIB) graced the 3rd Khuvie Nyi as the special guest.
