SAC reviews KVK achievements, action plan at Tseminyu

Tseminyu, February 7 (MExN): The Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) meeting of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Tseminyu, under Kohima district, Nagaland, was held on February 6 at the KVK Conference Hall, Tuensang, with Deputy Commissioner of Tseminyu, Japheth Woch, attending as the special guest.

Addressing the meeting, the deputy commissioner stressed the need for greater convergence among agriculture and allied departments to scale up proven technologies for horizontal expansion, promote climate-resilient crop varieties, integrate Indigenous Technical Knowledge (ITKs) and encourage agri-entrepreneurship, particularly under horticulture for women-led Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) and Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in the district.

He also lauded KVK Tseminyu and KVK Kohima for their efforts in improving the livelihoods of the farming community in both districts.

The highlights of the SAC Achievement Report 2025 and the proposed Annual Action Plan 2026 were presented by Dr Ruokuovilie Mezhatsu, Senior Scientist and Head, KVK Kohima. He elaborated on the role of KVKs as vital agricultural technology hubs, engaged in assessing, demonstrating and transferring location-specific innovations to enhance productivity, with a focus on on-farm testing, frontline demonstrations and capacity building for farmers, rural youth and extension personnel.

On the occasion, a video film titled “Advancing Agriculture through Innovation” by KVK Kohima was released by the special guest.

Officials including Dr Paihem Michui, Assistant Chief Technical Officer (Veterinary and Animal Husbandry); Dr Martina Shitri, Assistant Chief Technical Officer (Genetics and Plant Breeding); Imtinuksung, Subject Matter Specialist (Soil and Water Conservation); Eliseni Tsopoe, Subject Matter Specialist (Entomology); and Dr Shisarenla Aier, Subject Matter Specialist (Horticulture), also spoke at the meeting.

During the interactive session, officials highlighted the crucial role of KVKs in addressing farmers’ challenges through scientific interventions and underscored the importance of interdepartmental collaboration to ensure holistic agricultural development in the district.

The meeting was attended by officials from line departments, including district heads of departments and agriculture and allied departments, women club members from Tseminyu district, and progressive farmers from both Tseminyu and Kohima districts.

The welcome address was delivered by the chairperson, Keneisezo Punyu, District Agriculture Officer, Tseminyu, while the vote of thanks was proposed by Dr Sesenlo Kath, Technical Officer, KVK Kohima.
