Kohima, April 29 (MExN): The Inner Line Regulation Commission (ILRC), under the aegis of the Naga Students' Federation (NSF), conducted a sensitization tour on the Inner Line Regulation (ILR) at St Joseph's College (Autonomous), Jakhama, on April 28.

Delivering the keynote address, NSF Vice President Vimeyiekho Vitso underscored the significance of the ILR in safeguarding the identity, land and future of the indigenous Naga people. Vitso stressed the urgent need for collective responsibility and public awareness in ensuring the proper implementation of the regulation.

Senchumo NSN Lotha, Chairman, ILRC, led the sensitization session, elaborating on the historical and legal foundations of the Inner Line Regulation, originally introduced under the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation (BEFR) of 1873. He underscored the growing challenges posed by unchecked influx and the need for stricter enforcement mechanisms to protect the socio-economic and cultural fabric of Nagaland.

The speakers collectively emphasised that while Nagaland possesses adequate legal provisions, the major challenge lies in effective implementation. They called upon the public, particularly the youth, to remain vigilant, responsible and proactive in upholding the intent of the ILRC.

It was also reiterated that while Nagaland remains welcoming, entry into the state must be regulated through proper documentation in accordance with the law. The programme concluded with a call for unity and awareness, encouraging all stakeholders to participate actively in strengthening the implementation of ILR for the greater interest and future security of the Naga people.

Earlier, the programme was chaired by Seve R Vadeo, Secretary, ILRC while welcome address was delivered by Nzantung Y Ezung, Vice President of the Students' Council SJC (A) Jakhama.
