Dimapur, November 13 (MExN): The Working Committee, Naga National Political Groups (WC, NNPGs) on Friday said that the safety and security of the negotiating team and leadership is paramount in any political negotiation concerning a nation's and a people's political destiny.
A ‘clarification’ issued by the group’s Media Cell, referred to a “communication between the Governor, state government and MHA over the security of Convener and Co-conveners of WC, NNPGs,” and stated that “its interpretation has forced the WC, NNPGs to respond.”
As such, the WC, NNPGs stated that the request for personal identity cards for top leadership of all political groups was put forward to the GoI interlocutor, from the very beginning of the political talks. This, it said, “would allow the Naga leaders to carry firearms for their personal safety.”
“While the Convener and co-conveners have their own Naga Army security apparatus in place, those involved in political talks, by protocol, requires additional escort security from state actors in their official travels,” it added.
“The WC, NNPGs consists of political groups who are not in a ceasefire with the Government of India, however, upon becoming part of WC, a de-facto ceasefire status was extended to all,” it said while adding that the clarification is “in response to those accusing WC, NNPGs of demanding Indian security forces for protection.”
“The same question is best answered by those with twenty four hour Z category Indian security forces with Indian MP status and residence in New Delhi,” it said, without going into details.
