Sale & use of fire crackers ‘punishable’ in Dimapur, Longleng

Longleng, November 11 (MExN): The district administrations of Longleng and Dimapur, in separate notifications, have imposed ban on sale and use of fire crackers in their respective districts during Diwali and other festivals from November 10 to January 31, 2021.

The imposition came following the order issued by the Government of Nagaland, Home Department on November 10 prohibiting the sale and use of fire crackers in view of the increase in the number of COVID-19 positive cases in the state.

Bursting of fire crackers releases harmful chemicals which have server impact on the respiratory health of vulnerable groups and such pollutants further may prove hazardous for recovered as well as active COVID-19 patients, the home department’s notification stated.

Consequently, in exercise of power conferred under Section 34 (h) of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, the DC Longleng has directed complete ban on sale and use of fire crackers in Longleng district from November 10 to January 31, 2021, a DIPR report said.

“Any person found in violating the order shall be punishable under relevant provisions of the Disaster Management Act, 2005 and other relevant sections of law,” added.

Meanwhile, similar direction was also issued today by DC Dimapur, Rajesh Soundararajan.

The GBs and Chairman of the respective village and colonies have been directed to ensure compliance to the order under supervision of the concerned area administrative officer, it said.

The DC further cautioned that any person found violating the order shall be punished under relevant provisions of the Disaster Management Act, 2005 and other relevant laws.
