Tseminyu, November 18 (MExN): Joint Forest Management Committee, Nagaland Forest Management Project, Self Help Groups and Forest Development Agency, under the Department of Environment, Forests & Climate Change, Nagaland organized sales day at Nsunyu village under Tseminyu Range under the aegis of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ on November 16. 

During a brief interaction with SHGs of the project, a press release stated that Yhuntilo Kent, Field Management Unit Head, Tseminyu Range, highlighted on different activities being carried out in all parts of the country to commemorate the 75th years of India’s Independence. He said that Sustainable Forest Management, Wildlife Protection and Biodiversity Conservation have become very important in the present context and added that climate change and environmental concern have become a serious issue. He said that SHGs play a vital role in forestry conservation.  He emphasised that their active participation will lead to better conservation of the forest areas and decrease forest dependency. The FMU Head also gave a brief demonstration on tree mulching to the SHGs and village members present during the programme. 

Nagato K Aye, Team Leader, FNGO, NEIDA, in his address to the SHGs briefed on how the village, being located on the highway and nearby to Kohima town have the advantage of selling more products and generate income. He said that they have to have some basic knowledge on market demand, and assured all help to uplift their livelihood.

Members of the SHGs showcased and sold varieties of local agricultural products such as yam, pumpkin, king chilli, green chilli, ash gourd, bitter gourd, brinjal and others.
