I have learnt of an International ministry called Samaritan Purse. Couple of year back, my son also benefited with a gift pack from the project titled “Operation Christmas Child” under the same ministry. My son had enough toys, but the surprise gift he received during that Christmas was the greatest joy for him. I could imagine how the Samaritan Purse could bring smile to many faces of distress children around the world during the Christmas.
It is Christmas time again in Nagaland! I can see many parents with their Children in big malls and poor as well on the streets, bargaining with the street vendor. But there are children who have received token of love from parents for years during Christmas, are lonely today. I have seen many children hurt with the death of their parents with AIDS and many affected children longing to play and enjoy like other children. They feel neglected, rejected, isolated and lonely.
I felt that the Samaritan Purse ministry could be an appropriate to such anguish children in this time of year. But had no idea of how to put a petition for these children. The team working with the AIDS Orphans and HIV infected and affected Children in Dimapur have realized that, Nagaland too has the resources to comfort this handful of children before begging to other countries. Hence, the team has visited few churches to share the concern. To the surprise of the team, almost all the churches came forward with valuable gift packs for HIV infected and affected Children. These few Churches have brought a broad smile to these children.
These are the remarks made by the children and Parents during Pre-Christmas and gift presentation programme:
“I asked my parents to buy me a shirt and God has provided me what I needed. Thanks to all the churches”
“I am receiving this kind of gift from an unknown person for the first time. It seems the person knows what I needed. I am really Happy”
“I am very happy and I want to say thanks to all the Churches for their love, care and concern”
“How can I express my joy? This will be the only Christmas gift that I would cherish for my life time”
Another parent said, “We cannot afford gifts for our children. We are so thankful to those Churches who have contributed gifts to our children”
A parent expressed, “We are very happy to see our children mingling with other children and having fun”
Prodigals’ Home acknowledges Darogapathar Ao Baptist Church Child Dept., Lhomithi Baptist Church Youth Dept., Aoyimkum Baptist Church Youth Dept., Police Baptist Church Women Dept.,and Valley View Sumi Baptist Church for joining hands with us in comforting the children during this Christmas. Your gift has brought a big smile to all the children, and I am confident of a ‘smile on the face of God.’
When the world is occupied in hectic preparation for Christmas programmes, there are always some people who have little space and time in their hearts to think about these Children to make their Christmas meaningful this year. ‘Merry Christmas’
