SAMETI trains ATMA functionaries on Integrated Pest Management

Medziphema, September 19 (MExN): State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI) organised two-day online training on ‘Promotion of IPM in commercial agricultural and horticultural crops’ for Agri & Allied & ATMA functionaries at SAMETI, Medziphema on September 17-18.

The training was aimed to provide technical knowledge to the extension functionaries about the latest development in the field of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and creating awareness on management techniques in agricultural and horticultural crops. 

Dr Watimongla Jamir, Director SAMETI & Principal IETC i/c in her inaugural speech welcomed all the participants and reiterate on the importance of IPM. She stated that the training schedule will cover important topics which were relevant and applicable at farmers’ level and hence, reminded the trainees to do justice to the training by delivering what they have learned to the target group. In her concluding remarks, she encouraged the trainees to play the role of extension agents effectively so as to contribute in improving the farming system in the state.

The resource persons for the training program were J. Akato Chishi Senior Technical Assistant, Department of Entomology, Dr Pankaj Neog, Assistant Professor, Department of Entomology and Dr Waluniba, Assistant Professor, Department of Entomology, NU SASRD, Medziphema Campus. 

The topics covered during the online training were introduction, principles and its different component or tools of IPM, integrated pest of horticultural crops and its management, use of chemical pesticides in IPM: biological control and modules of IPM in different field crops with reference to Nagaland.

Feedback was received from all the participants and e-Certificates were issued to the participants. Altogether, 22 ATMA functionaries from 11 districts of the state attended the training.
