Samziuram Women Society condemns sexual assault of minor

Demands concrete action against gender-based violence

Peren, May 8 (MExN): The members of Samziuram Women Society (SWS) have strongly condemned the alleged rape of a 13-year-old minor by his own father.  

As per the Peren police, the man was on May 2 from Zunheboto based on a FIR filed at the Women Police Station, Jalukie, on May 1, pertaining “to the rape of a victim by close relative.”  In a press release, the SWS identified the culprit one Kanito Sumi.

The Society also expressed “expressed the indescribable pain, uncontainable rage, and suffocating despair” to learn about a daughter fell victim to a violent act at a young age and suffered silently due to continuous threats.

The SWS further asserted that the act of rape is illegal, immorally wrong and a punishable criminal offense under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO), Act, 2012 and urged the duty-bearers and leaders to take necessary action as per the Act. 

“It is time to move beyond mere words and rhetoric. It is time for concrete action – action that addresses the root causes of gender-based violence, challenges harmful stereotypes, and promotes a culture of equality and respect,” it added. 

The Society also stated that it would not rest until justice is served and the perpetrator is held accountable for his heinous actions. 

Demanding immediate action and justice, it also urged communities to not turn a blind eye or offer empty platitudes, stating: “Your silence is complicity, your indifference is betrayal.” 

“Stand with us in solidarity... Let us make one thing abundantly clear: our daughter is not alone in this fight. We stand beside her, a fortress of unwavering love and fierce determination,” it added.
