Satakha Area GB Association against disruption of highway construction works

Zunheboto, May 28 (MExN): The Satakha Area GB Association on May 28 held an emergency meeting with all the 7 affected Village GBs, Chairman and Representative from the Sumi Hoho Nagaland to resolve the two lane highway issue in the district.

In the meeting, it was declared that all the press statements and notifications issued by the SARDP Sumi Area Affected Landowners Welfare Committee (SSAALWC) with regard to suspension of the ongoing two lane highway are ‘unauthorised’ and not official “as not a single GB or Chairman or the GB Association's concern was taken during such decisions which is against the laws of the Association and the GBs.”

The Association stated that the road construction should go on and not be stopped in any manner as it defames the Satakha people as some of the construction area falls under their jurisdiction.

Hokugha Chishi, President of the Satakha Area GB Association said that the Association had taken a joint decision not to let any individual or group obstruct the ongoing highway construction at any cost and that it would co-operate with the government and the administration.

The President also said that no one from the SSAALWC has attended the meeting, and termed it ‘very displeasing’ to the leaders and elders. He also said that all the Villages and GBs had agreed to start the highway work immediately and requested the SSAALWC to agree with whatever decision the GB Association has made.

Stating that the SSAALWC's existence is not known by many of the villagers as well as the village GBs as the group had reportedly been formed without the consent of the GBs, the Council and the villagers.

However, he requested the Welfare Committee not to obstruct the ongoing work, as all the villagers have also decided to not obstruct the ongoing road construction.

He also said that the GB association, the Sumi Hoho and the entire apex NGOs are trying their best and will be doing so to request the Government to look into the matter of the land issue and to resolve it at the earliest.

He mentioned that on May 27, the Deputy Commissioner of Zunheboto had also issued an order to start the highway construction immediately without any obstruction by any group or individual.
