Satoi caution government on ENSF-type quota

Dimapur, Aug 9 (MExN): While reiterating its memorandum to the Chief Minister for inclusion in the 33% reservation, the Satoi Range Students’ Union has cautioned the state government that if exclusive reservation is given to certain tribes, then the deserving ones have been failed.

The Satoi range students while acknowledging the demand of the ENSF, however, made clear that the government should actually consider the conditions of people in far-flung and remotest areas.

“The SRSU appeals to the government to sincerely attend to our demand and see to it that the reservation is not made on tribal lines, rather identify regions/pockets which needs to be attended the most, stated a note from the SRSU president Su-wu H Toketo and general secretary Newto Jimmo. “While SRSU upholds the claim of ENSF for reservation of backward quota, we assert that if the government stick to such reservations exclusively for certain tribes of people without opening its eyes to include in reality the actual educationally, economically and developmentally backward people/area, it has utterly failed in granting the deserved ones” the SRSU reminded.

The Satoi students also reminded that if such sections of people who are living in and around district headquarters like Tuensang, on, Kiphire and Longleng claim to be educationally, economically and developmentally backward, the people of far-flung and remotest areas should be considered.

The SRSU has warned that if the government fails to attend to the demands, the SRSU would adopt any means that would “help coerce” to meet the same.
