The Divisional Forest Office Zunheboto along with Satoi Town Administration successfully conducted a two-day sensitization program titled “SATOI CONNECT” from August 12 to 13 in Satoi Town, Zunheboto District. The initiative brought together community elders and student leaders from villages under Satoi range and forest officials to strengthen grassroots conservation awareness and foster collaborative stewardship of local ecosystems towards Eco-tourism prospects in the area.
Organized by the DFO Zunheboto Obed Bohovi Swu, SFS the program focused on enhancing understanding of Eco-tourism potential and the role of community in achieving long-term ecological resilience. “This program is not just about information—it’s about connection,” added Swu. “SATOI CONNECT is a platform to bridge policy with people, and to ensure that conservation is rooted in community values and local leadership for exposure of the rich biodiversity of the area.” The region is blessed with so many important species of wildlife. The region also standing at the highest point of over 2260 m provides scenic views that mesmerize the trekker.
He said that Zunheboto is the Central District of Nagaland and can become the focal point from tourism perspective during the Hornbill Festival of Nagaland since it can interconnect with other important tourist places under Phek, Meluri, Wokha, Mokokchung, Tuensang, Mon, Tseminyu districts of Nagaland.
Obangnener Jamir, EAC Satoi also spoke on the Eco-tourism importance and what the region can offer through the involvement of village community. The program concluded with the notion to ultimately bring the ecological significance of Satoi range under the tourism map of Nagaland.
As part of the ongoing “SATOI CONNECT” initiative, a two-day trekking program was organized from Satoi Town to Tsutoho Village. Led by DFO Zunheboto, the trek served as both a sensitization exercise and a symbolic journey of connection—linking remote communities through shared conservation values and experiential learning. Participants traversed forest trails. “This trek was not just a physical journey— but it was a reaffirmation of our commitment to bring the area into the tourist map of Nagaland through Eco-tourism,” Swu remarked.
“The Satoi–Tsutoho trekking corridor holds immense ecological and cultural significance.” Covering a distance of over 5 Km from Satoi Town to Tsutoho Village, the 3-4 hours journey is fascinating.
Trekking trails along the steep slopes, treading a section of about 160m near the vertical slope, once the route taken by our forefathers, the Satoi Peak looking up towards Mt. Saramati, the man-tiger passage, other historical sites, the naturally existing undisturbed forest, etc and many more will offer excitement and adventure to the tourism Swu Concludes.
