Sazolie College, Jotsoma conducted Poetry Slam Championship as part of World Poetry Day under the theme “Bridging Differences and Fostering Unity” at Vineizono Hall, Phezhu, Jotsoma on March 21. The programme was organised by the Department of English, Sazolie College.
Delivering keynote address, Sungjemmenla Longkumer, Assistant Professor (English), acknowledged the power of poetry as a bridge between cultures and a mirror to the society in a world faced with exhaustive challenges. Imploring on the role and impact of poetry in the digital age, she mentioned that poetry is thriving more than ever with the rise of micro-poetry, visual poetry and the need to caption every picture shared on various social media platforms.
The occasion, chaired by Kekhrienguno Peseyie, Assistant Professor (English) brought poetry enthusiasts from all the departments of the college.
In Poetry Slam Championship, 14 participants from 7 departments presented their original compositions. Luve Lohe of B.A 4th semester (Psychology) was declared the winner for his poem “The Paradox of Unity”. Kekhriesiu of B.A. 2nd semester (English) bagged the 2nd position for his poem “The Blind Who See, The Deaf Who Hears”. Emei M. Konyak of B.A. 6th semester (English) bagged the 3rd position for her poem “Differences Empowers Discrimination.”
The panel of judges included Dr Kelhouvinuo Suokhrie, HoD, Department of Linguistics, Keneise-ü Gabrielina, HoD, Department of Psychology and Nzanthung Kikon, Chaplain.
