Kohima, March 4 (MExN): The State Council of Educational Research and Training, Nagaland (SCERT), in collaboration with Dream a Dream, a non-profit organisation working to empower young people facing adversity, conducted Phase 2 of the State Resource Group (SRG) training on Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) from February 24 to 27, at the SCERT office, Kohima.
The four-day programme brought together 19 faculty members from District Institutes of Education and Training (DIETs), designated as SRG members, to deepen their engagement with SEL, building on the foundation laid during the earlier phase of training.
The sessions were experiential in nature and aimed at strengthening participants’ understanding of SEL as an approach to teaching and learning, while preparing them to train teachers and support large-scale implementation of SEL across the state.
Facilitated by trainers from Dream a Dream, the programme focused on enhancing empathy towards children, strengthening self-awareness among educators, and building facilitation skills—particularly validation—to help create safe, supportive and joyful learning environments.
Key activities during the training included personal poetry exercises, creative visualisation, listening and non-listening activities, and validation practice sessions, which helped contextualise SEL within Nagaland’s education system.
Officials noted that strengthening educators’ social and emotional competencies is critical for improving student wellbeing, fostering creativity and confidence, strengthening meaningful classroom relationships, and ultimately nurturing responsible and compassionate individuals.
The SRG members will play a key role in supporting SEL implementation in 176 pilot schools and will contribute to upcoming phases of teacher training across Nagaland, officials added.
