Schools in Tening villages in pitiable condition

DIMAPUR, MARCH 22 (MExN): The Zeliangrong Students’ Union, Nagaland (ZSUN) led by its president Mr Lungchui visited Ngaulong and Ngam village under Tening sud-division from March 1-3, 2006.

During the visit to the two remote villages, the ZSUN had a discussion on number of important issues patterning to the villages with the Village Council members, Village Education committee and elders. Of all the issues, discussion on problems faced by schools was the most emphasized one.

During their visit the student leaders discovered that the schools of the two villages were in pitiable conditions, according to Lungchui, President of the ZSUN.

At Ngaulong, the school which has Class A- Class II, and about has 100 students are being looked after by only 2 teachers, which are not even  government appointees, according to the organization. The two teachers were being sponsored by the village council. “Even at Ngam village, the same pitiable conditions are being face by the school, which has Class A- Class IV and about 140 students. Here too, the schools is being manned by two govt. teachers. But since there are fair number of students these teachers alone is finding difficult to after the whole classes”.

While bringing this information to the state government, the ZSUN appreciated the village councils of the two villages for taking keen interest in education by sponsoring teachers, which the concerned department has failed to do.

“We would like to make a fervent appeal to the state government to look into the matter and do something for the neglected students of these backward villages.
