DIMAPUR: “I want to blend the two cultures of the two neighboring states- Nagaland and Assam and promote peace through the big screen” comments Ajay Kumar who has been directing and producing feature films mostly in Nagamese dialect for decades.

The lone 37-year old artiste, who always dreamt of producing his own film ever since he can remember, is currently working on a film with some of Assam’s silver screen personalities for ‘Morum Janibi’ of which he is very optimistic of the outcome and hopes that it will hit in a very big way. “This time it’s a different one and I have also invested a handsome amount in this production and I hope people will appreciate it when it hits the market,” the pioneer of Naga film industry added.  With limited financial resource to feed all the expenses involved, the man from Nagpur has already seven full feature film productions released in English, Nagamese and Hindi under his belt. The lone performer has also produced a number of movies in local dialects too and longs to still do more films of each and every language of the Nagas.   From Revengelobo (1990), which was his first film where he did the role of a co-actor to Revenge (2006) his own produced latest movie which is yet to be released, the director who also has acted in many of his own productions expresses his fight against all odds of how he managed to hold on.

The one-man entertainer believes on what he is doing would promote the youths to do something more than just pass the time and paint the town red. All performers are from Dimapur alone and due to the financial hig-up; they are simply enjoying the job of acting without even being paid.

With all the shootings done by a handy-cam or a beta camera, all the editing is done down in Imphal. Among some of his final products, “Mafia Gang was a hit” he said and continued that “leaving aside all the earnings from cinema tickets sold out in local video parlors, I have sold more than 4,000 CD’s”.

He is not alone from the family who only fights with the production. Narola Jamir his wife helps him out with all the scripts which allocate him to save the expenses to be paid to a script writer. “I will keep on continuing producing films till my last breath on this planet”, he adds. Ajay Kumar, the man who always dreamt big, shares his aim in future to The Morung Express with a smile and says, “One day or the other I will bring some of the Bollywood actors -the not too expensive ones- to Nagaland and give a chance to the Naga talents to act with them”.

The latest movie which is in Nagamese dialect Revenge presented by the Pooja Film Production is all set to be premiered at Hotel Saramati, Dimapur, come March 4, 2006.

The non-stop action packed movie features Zhokhoi and Achumla as the hero and heroine. He further disclosed that some of the Assamese film personalities will be present to witness the release of the picture.
