According to eyewitness accounts, the deceased and his bodyguard were in a moving vehicle, a Hyundai Getz, driven by the latter going down towards Police Point area in Project Colony near Daily Bazaar when they were shot at close range by around 6-7 cadres of GPRN/NSCN in “full uniform.” Eyewitnesses said that the body of the victim, seated at the front, was riddled with bullets. The bodyguard managed to escape but his condition and whereabouts were unknown.

The deceased, 41 years, is son of former Sumi Hoho president, Vitokhe Assumi of Litami village and is survived by three sons and a daughter. He studied at St. Anthony’s College and Hindu University Delhi.

The NSCN (K) condemned the killing and described it as “one of the saddest aspect” that a “non-combatant and educated person” was targeted. “He was in civilian area without any combat attitude. They should have second thought,” said an NSCN (K) functionary.

GPRN/NSCN MIP said it was saddened by the incident and described it as “very unfortunate” adding “We do not like to let this kind of thing happen.”
