KU submits memo to President of India
27 AR asked to vacate Mon district
Mon, December 6 (MExN): The Konyak Union on Monday asserted that the December 4 incident at Oting cannot be termed as a case of ‘mistaken identity’ at all.
“This is an act of atrocity beyond reasoning. No explanation can justify this heinous act of deliberate crime against humanity,” it said in a memorandum to the President of India.
Condemning the incident, the Union demanded remedial actions including repeal of the contentious Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), 1958 from the entire North East Region and removal of the 27 Assam Rifles from the district.
“27 Assam Rifles must immediately vacate Mon district on moral ground for failing to provide security to its citizens whereby the military forces from other State had intruded and committed the Oting Yatong Massacre on December 4, 2021,” the memo stated.
The Union was also firm in its demand for an immediate probe and said that an independent inquiry under a competent investigating agency should be set up with two members from the Naga civil society inducted in the Special Investigating Team.
Maintaining that the incident seemed to be a case of complete failure of the part of intelligent source(s) and a well calculated attempt on the lives of innocent civilians, the memorandum further stated that all military forces or army personnel involved in the incident should be booked and punished under applicable civil court.
“Action taken against those erring official(s) at Oting Yatong Massacre must be put into public domain within 30 days,” it added.
