Under investigation on charges of sexual abuse, one man, who was arrested in Mokokchung in July, has filed for bail. The accused, in his 60s, was arrested on July 1 by the Mokokchung police under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, based on a complaint filed by the parents of two children, who were allegedly sodomised. Facing investigation since then and in judicial custody, the accused filed for bail under section 439 of the Cr.PC (read with section 167) in the Kohima Bench of the Gauhati High Court on October 15. The court heard the bail application on October 16. As per the court order, the bail application was listed for hearing on November 11. The government prosecutor was further directed to produce the case diary of the case and also file written objection if required. At the time of the arrest, the identity of the accused was not revealed by the police on grounds that it would compromise the identity of the victims. The police however disclosed that the accused was a retired government official.
