
Medziphema, December 2 (MExN): Commemorating the India’s 75th year of Independence (Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav), an 'Exhibition-Cum-Sales Day' by Medziphema Village Women Self Help Groups was held on November 29 and 30. The Mezhiphema Field Management Unit (FMU) and Joint Forest Management Committee (JFMC) under Nagaland Forest Management Project (NFMP) JICA & FDA organised the event at Medziphema Local ground.
The event included various sale and exhibition of local products such as vegetables, wild fruits, handicrafts, face masks and various other local organic foods, informed a press release.
Speaking on the event, FMU Head Medziphema, Florence T Sangtam, Forest Ranger emphasised the need for sustainable livelihood opportunities for the rural communities. With such events, the aim for a sustainable community is achieved, through participatory planning and capacity development for people and institutions concerned, she maintained, adding that such event would contribute towards achieving Sustainable Development Goals aimed at alleviating poverty and food security. Appreciating the SHGs, she further encouraged them to continue activities for the protection of the forest resources.
MLA & Advisor Sericulture, Excise & Minority Affairs, Zhaleo Rio IAS also appreciated the effort of the Forest Department in providing such marketing platforms for the SHGs to showcase and sale of vegetables and handicrafts.
Project Director (NFMP) Vedpal Singh also extended his good wishes for future endeavours while DFO Dimapur, Beizo Suokhrie lauded the hard work of the SHGs and FMU, Medziphema, the release said. Meanwhile, appreciating the SHGs and all the stakeholders of forest, FMU Medziphema acknowledged the Chakhroma Students’ Union in general and CSU President V Akieto Khro in particular for supporting the SHGs by enabling them to put up a stall for the event.
