Shifting of Dimapur DC office faces renewed opposition

Dimapur, September 11 (MExN): The Government of Nagaland has once again been cautioned against the proposed shifting of the present Deputy Commissioner (DC) office Dimapur to Chümoukedima village.

The Dimapur District Citizens’ Forum on Saturday reiterated its earlier memorandums to the State Government on August 25, 2014 and June 5, 2015 and its representation on April 6, 2021, opposing the shifting of the office, stating that “the citizens of Dimapur shall not be silent spectators and will oppose democratically,” in the event of any move or development to shift the office.

A press release from the forum’s media cell informed that the DDCF, during an ‘emergency meeting’ on September 11, resolved to reaffirm its stance on the matter and appealed the Government of Nagaland to “listen to the voice of the masses as in a democratic country; the Government is formed by the people and is for the people.”

The DDCF also acknowledged the appointment of a new Additional Deputy Commissioner in the new DC Complex, terming it as “a sign of development and growth of the district” which will largely relieve the burden of the people in the Chümoukedima circle.

Meanwhile, the DDCF urged the government to pave way for the conversion of non-cadastral land into cadastral survey land especially in the town/municipal areas, so that the areas would be “free for development in the near future.”

It also appealed the government to deal with the inter-district boundary issue between Peren and Dimapur sensitively and without any bias. It is our deep concern that all the stakeholders—affected villages/CSOs, administration— should be taken on board while settling the dispute for a permanent settlement, it added.
