A shootout was reported between armed cadres in the Naga dominated district of Noney, Manipur on July 28. The incident reportedly occurred at Rengpang village at around 3:30 pm between two Naga political groups. The cadres involved were suspected to be the NSCN (IM) and the Zeliangrong United Front though security officials maintained it was yet to be corroborated. Security Forces responded by conducting an area domination exercise. Casualty, if any, could not be ascertained, one of the sources said.
Correction: In the original news report, Rengpang, the village where the shootout occurred, was mistakenly rendered as falling in Tamenglong district of Manipur. The error is regretted and any confusion it may have caused.
