KOHIMA, APRIL 17 (DIPR): Nagaland Minister for Planning and Co-Ordination Dr. Shürhozelie today highlighted the crucial role of the District Planning and Development Boards in the overall development of the districts. He said this at the meeting of Kohima District Planning and Development Board.
Shürhozelie said that the districts performance and achievements entirely depends on the Board and noted that the responsibility of the Board is very important. He also urged the departmental heads of the district to submit departmental programmes to be compiled into a booklet. He said this will create better understanding and co-operation among departments while also avoiding duplication of schemes and programmes. He said that the Local Area Development Fund (LADF) is not ‘political money’ and is meant for development of the area.
He stressed on the need to formulate programmes at the grassroots level and also said that the Board has the power to scrutinize programmes and schemes for its successful implementation. In this regard, he said that a proper system has to be evolved for everyone.
On the Common Pool Fund of the LADF, Shürhozelie said that the fund is meant for projects of common interest and urged the respective departments to suggest programmes to be taken up for common interest.
Deputy Commissioner, R. Ramakrishnan informed members of the Kohima District Disaster Management Committee to attend a training at Administrative Training Institute on 21st and 22nd April, 2006.
VAS, Department of Veterinary & Animal Husbandry, Dr. Simon Ao, gave a presentation on Avian Influenza. Highlighting the history of the virus, preventive measures and the steps taken by the State, he sought the cooperation and help of all concerned, adding that with such a strong threat of the virus the Department alone cannot carry out the preventive measures. He briefed members about the steps that have been taken up by the Department in conducting district and block level awareness campaigns.
District Project Officer Kohima, Land Resources Development Department, Keneingulie gave a brief presentation of the department’s activities.
Additional Deputy Commissioner, Imjung Panger requested all Agri and allied departments involved in the yearlong observance of ‘Year of Farmers’ to intimate his office on time if there is any programme involving the utilization of the Kohima Local Ground. He said this is necessary in advance for many programmes.
