Shun violence: Naga mothers appeal

DIMAPUR, JAN 23 (MExN): The Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA) making a clarion call to the Naga people, today stated that Nagas must march forward in one voice as they cannot afford to “derail the given opportunity by leveling all sorts of allegations against each other.” The mothers appealed to all Naga national workers to shun violence and cohesively work for the greater glory of the Nagas. “The Naga Mothers are convinced that unless the Naga political issue is resolved, all Naga families will continue to suffer both physical and psychological trauma,” a release issued by President Khesheli Chishi and General Secretary Vivi Nyuthe said.

In their January 19 meeting, the NMA had deliberated at length on various issues and evaluated their past activities. “We need to learn from past experiences that the more we accuse each other, the more we are strengthening the hands of our opponents,” the release said. It expressed unhappiness and concern over the use of threatening language by Naga resistance groups in their statements.

NMA stated that “Whatever reason one tries to justify the present chaos and confusion within our society there is no other better appropriate and alternative means to bring back our society into a normal state of affairs till we find a solution to the political conflict,” and that solidarity and support for an early solution is “a natural phenomenon as every Naga both young and old yearns for a better and peaceful life.”
