Kohima, February 7 (MExN): The St Joseph’s College (SJC) (Autonomous) Jakhama, Diploma Course Counselling Psychology students visited the State Mental Health Institute on February 7 to help “build health awareness among adolescents and young adults of ways to look after their mental health.”

Senior Medical Officer, Dr Viketoulie and his team welcomed the students and made all the arrangements to have two hours of interaction on stress, mental health issues, depression and mobile phone addiction etc.

Fr C Joseph, Counsellor, St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous) presented a paper on ‘Mental health of the young’.  While speaking on the topic, Fr C Joseph said, “Today, adolescents in general, are experiencing many physical, emotional, cultural and social shocks. They live in a polluted environment. The traditional culture and its values are being substituted by new dangerous modern cultures such as: drug culture, alcohol culture, mobile culture, face book culture, pornography culture, tobacco culture, internet culture, gun culture, easy money culture, pleasure loving and easy going culture.”

Students took active participation with Dr Viketoulie in interaction and cleared their doubts and queries. Dr T Wabang, Medical Superintendent, State Mental Health Institute appreciated the visit while various cultural items were performed by students.
