SJU Dimapur holds webinar on ‘Sticking with Chemistry’

DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 29 (MExN): The Department of Chemistry, St Joseph University, Dimapur organized an international webinar on ‘Sticking with Chemistry’ on November 27.

The event started with a prayer song.  Dr K Raja, organizing secretary, welcomed the participants and resource persons of the webinar. He thanked Dr D Gannadurai, Vice Chancellor; Dr J Rabort Edwin Chester, Registrar; Dr Ranjan Kumar Bekara, Dean of Academics and Dr M Arockia Doss, Head of Department for being the speakers.

Dr V Balakumar, JSPS Post-Doctoral Researcher, Japan   gave a detailed presentation on metal free photo catalysis for the destruction of toxic hazards. He highlighted about the structure and characterization of photo catalytic compounds. He elaborated about the photo catalytic application and mechanisms.

Later, Dr J Elangovan, Assistant Professor of Chemistry, RSGC Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu briefed about the “Serenditipities Chemistry” and importance of going through isomerism, vulcanization and artificial sweeteners. He further highlighted the importance of going through anesthesia and white phosphorus.

Dr K Tharini, Assistant Professor of Chemistry, GAC Trichy, Tamil Nadu in her presentation explained about versatile applications of heterocyclic compounds. She stressed on the importance to truthful submission and representation of all the required data for the synthesis of compounds.

Later, Dr K Raja responded to questions and doubts raised by the participants. This was followed by a vote of thanks from Mhajano Okhyopvui, III Bsc Chemistry. The session concluded with a vote of thanks by M Renugadevi.
